God Is For Us

Welcome.

This page is dedicated to the Christian icon 'God Is For Us', created by request for the 30-year anniversary reprint of C. Baxter Kruger’s book of the same name.

On this page you can buy prints (limited edition and non-limited) and find out more about the icon, the creation process and the artist.

About the icon

The icon invites the viewer into a sacred realisation.

The image sensitively attempts to lift the veil on what was happening as Jesus hung on the cross.

The viewer stands behind the cross, gazing into the intimacy shared between Jesus, Father God, and Holy Spirit - The Holy Trinity.

Jesus, eternally part of the Trinity, remained in this embrace throughout the entire ordeal of the cross.

Wherever Jesus went, so did the Trinity together: defeating death, rising to life again, and bringing the whole of creation with them.

At no point did God the Father or Holy Spirit separate themselves from Jesus.

At no point was Jesus alone. And so neither are we - never rejected, never abandoned, never forgotten.

Forever beloved, forever embraced.

About the process

The piece began as a fully hand-illustrated drawing using Pigma fineliners. I spent hours building the fine details line by line - shaping the contours, layering texture, and capturing the emotional depth I wanted the image to hold. Every mark was created with intention.

Once the hand-drawn foundation was complete, I added a final layer of digital colour. This allowed me to bring in tones and luminosity that wasn’t possible with traditional media alone for a book cover artwork.

The finished artwork is a blend of painstaking hand craftsmanship and gentle digital refinement—honouring the authenticity of the drawn image while using modern tools to elevate it into its final form.

About the artist

Hello, I'm grace.

I am intrigued by icons. I have been surprised by their mystical invitation to encounter God. They are a beginning to a conversation between the viewer and God.

My hope is that this piece will be a beginning for those who view it, to see a new intimacy in the cross.

I repeatedly listened to Baxter's book on audio until this piece came to life. Every time I heard something new. I often hear theological statements and imagine them as metaphors and images, as a way of understanding and memorising them. 'God Is For Us' emerged out of this very process. I hope it speaks to you too of the profound good news of what happened on the cross - you are included in this same intimacy.

I spin many plates - creating art is one of them. The creative process anchors my spiritual practice, making me slow down and listen. I'm also a mum and I run my own business. It isn't easy to find the time to create but it is vital to everything else.

About the book

From C. Baxter Kruger himself:

"That God should be ‘for us’ will be a remarkable and transforming discovery for those who have grown weary under the whiplash of a theology that drives us to ‘do something for God!’ I wish that overburdened pastors could read this book before ever preaching another sermon and uninspired Christians could inhale its fragrance before going to church!"

I'll confess I rarely email out because each piece is a long process to create, so this won't clog up your inbox.
